Shane Ross issues an apology after referring to Sinn Fein transport spokesperson Imelda Munster as a ‘donkey’

The Minister for Transport Shane Ross has issued an apology after he referred to Sinn Féin’s transport spokesperson as a ‘donkey’.

Speaking to RTÉ News this evening Minister Ross issued the apology to Imelda Munster, saying he was sorry for the offence caused by his analogy.

Minister Ross who was criticised for his comments earlier today, said that he regretted what he said, before stating that he got caught up in the debate.

It is understood the apology comes after the Transport Minister got into a heated exchange with Ms Munster over green cards following Brexit.

During the exchange Ross apparently told Ms Munster: “You came in, as you normally do, and you are like a donkey at the last race… at the last fence – you upset the whole apple-cart.”
