‘She was only starting out in life,’ Grace Lynch’s mother reads emotional speech at her daughter’s funeral

The funeral mass for Grace Lynch has heard that her death has triggered a range of deep emotions among those who knew her, including pain, hurt, loss and anger, reports RTE.

The 16-yr-old Dublin teenager died after being struck by a scrambler last weekend, reports RTE.

Hundreds of people gathered at St Oliver Plunkett’s church in Finglas to pay their respects.

Grace Lynch’s mother, Siobhán, told the congregation that her daughter was deeply loved by many and was only just beginning her life, reports RTE.

She said Grace will be missed forever and that life will never be the same again.

“I love you baby,” she said, reports RTE.

Fr Seamus Aherne remarked that the community will forever remember the day she died with a broken heart, describing her as someone full of life, love and kindness, reports RTE.

He noted that her grandmother had portrayed her as a person who always saw good in everyone.

He also spoke of her as a typical teenager who borrowed her sisters’ clothes, left her room in a state of chaos, and had a great passion for music, reports RTE.

Among the songs performed during the service was ’Amazing Grace’.

Fr Aherne described her as bubbly and a friend to everyone, reports RTE.

The gifts brought forward included a school jumper, a jewellery case and a self-portrait.

The chief mourners were Grace’s mother Siobhán, father Martin, her two sisters and her younger brother, reports RTE.

Earlier, the funeral cortege stopped outside her school, St Michael’s secondary, where students bid farewell by releasing balloons into the sky.

Grace Lynch, aged 16, was a fifth-year student at the school, reports RTE.

Lampposts along the route were adorned with red ribbons, her favourite colour.

Many mourners wore red ribbons as well, reports RTE.

Students created a guard of honour as the coffin was brought into the church.

Members of Dublin Fire Brigade were present at the service, reports RTE.

The teenager was fatally injured after being hit by a scrambler last weekend on Ratoath Road in Finglas.

An 18-year-old man is currently appearing in court charged with dangerous driving causing her death, reports RTE.

Burial will take place at Dardistown cemetery after the funeral mass.
