Sherlock holmes! Eamon Ryan says he ‘suspected’ Martin would be asked about confidence in RTÉ chairwoman

Eamon Ryan “suspected” that during a highly criticised TV appearance, Minister for Media Catherine Martin could be questioned about her trust in the RTÉ board chairperson, reports Breaking News.

The Green Party leader denied, meanwhile, that he had discussed the issue with his colleague before the Prime Time appearance.

In that interview from last Thursday, Ms. Martin declined to show confidence in Siún Ní Raghallaigh, stating that she was “disappointed” that she had been misled about her involvement in authorising a former RTÉ executive’s leave package.

Shortly after, Ms. Ní Raghallaigh tendered her resignation as the RTÉ board chair, reports Breaking News.

Opposition TDs have questioned Ms. Martin’s handling of the incident, alleging that she essentially fired the chair live on television.

The minister of media expressed her surprise at being questioned about her level of trust in Ms. Ní Raghallaigh, reports Breaking News.

Prior to the interview, Mr. Ryan said on Thursday that he had discussed “a whole variety of possibilities” with Ms. Martin.

When asked if he thought the interview would include a question about his trust in Ms. Ní Raghallaigh, he responded, “Of course, I suspected it was a possibility,” reports Breaking News.
