Katie Taylor’s successful 2023 fight with Amanda Serrano at Croke Park could take place in early summer, according to stadium manager Peter McKenna.

Earlier this month, boxer Bray confirmed his team are pushing for a rematch with Serrano at Croke Park, with that prospect a step closer after the Puerto Rican’s promoter said she was ready to fight Taylor in Ireland.

September and October 2023 dates were previously announced for a repeat of the epic competition between the two at Madison Square Garden this past April.

However, Croke Park stadium manager McKenna confirmed that dates prior to 2023 were instead being canned for the potentially historic fight.

“We’re looking at dates earlier in the year. We’re quite a way along the road in the talking with Brian Peters [Kate Taylor’s manager] and Matchroom [Katie Taylor’s promoter],” McKenna told RTÉ Radio’s All Roads to Croker, a special programme reflecting on the last 12 months at Croke Park,” reports RTE.

In November, Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn said his company Matchroom needed the support of Croke Park and the Irish government to host the Jones’ Road fight.

McKenna said he believes the government will continue to support the event.

“The Minister for Sport has been supportive but he’s not, nor should he, write a blank cheque. He’ll want to see value in this. Any messaging I would have said to Matchroom, or Brian Peters would be to put a compelling case together and I think you are pushing an open door,” he said, reports RTE.

After seven concerts at the legendary stadium in 2022, McKenna is expecting a quieter 12 months.
