A Belfast man was on a fishing trip in Cork yesterday when it ended in somewhat of a disaster.
The man was severely bitten by a shark while he was deap-sea angling. He sustained a very serious injury to his lower arm and was also treated for severe shock.
The man was given first aid by the crew member of the boat he was on and then was immediately transferred to the lifeboat where further casualty care was given on board.
It’s understood the man’s condition is stable and improving.
A RNLI spokesman told RTE: “This was more of an angling accident than a shark attack, there was a bit of a struggle when pulling the shark on board.
“We’re not trying to panic anyone.”
