French police have rescued 32 sheep being held by in the garage of a Pizzeria in Paris ahead of the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha or ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ in which Muslims ritually butcher the animals while still in their full senses, the French Newspaper Le Parisien reports.
Muslims are encouraged to engage in the ritual slaughter of animals on Eid al-Adha ‘Greater Eid’ – the tenth day of the holy month, Dhu al-Hijjah, which also coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage Mecca.
However, the method in which the animals are slaughtered often contravenes French law which states they must be killed in a designated, hygienic area and without undue cruelty, Breitbart reported.
Eid al-Adha 2018 began in the evening of Tuesday, 21st August and culminates on Saturday, 25th of August but some European countries such as Belgium have banned “halal” slaughter, with the exception of Brussels, and the UK Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has repeatedly spoke out against halal slaughter as well.
Meanwhile the internet has been flooded with pictures from across the Islamic world of streets running red with the blood of animals who were ritualistically slaughtered with their throats being cut or punctured while still fully conscious, the UK Sun reports.
