A number of firefighting vehicles and other emergency units are still at the scene of a large fire in Wexford.
A blaze broke out at Curracloe beach earlier yesterday afternoon. The beach is a popular tourist and local destination.
The beach was evacuated and people are advised to still stay away from the area this morning.
According to the Mirror, Wexford county councillor Tom Forde said: “As far as I’m aware it was caused by a barbecue at the beach.
“It’s very disappointing. I’ll be calling on the council to address the issue further and to make people more aware about the dangers of it in the future.
“It’s so close to the nature reserve in Wexford as well and the beach is one of Wexford’s best tourist amenities.
“You would hope that people would have more sense in the future.
“Curracloe beach is a very busy place and every Saturday and Sunday it’s particularly busy. People are always walking out there, especially in this fine weather, people would be swimming at the beach also.
“The car park was full out there and the gardai had to come and evacuate the place out of concern for everybody’s safety.”
