Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy has claimed ‘political policing’ is behind his recent arrest and the arrest of several other people, including councillors. Mr Murphy was held for questioning in connection with the attack on Tánaiste Joan Burton’s car.
Speaking the Dáil, the Socialist TD found his microphone turned off when he broached the subject of his arrest and any potential bias shown by the gardaí. The Ceann Comhairle ruled him ‘out of order’.
Accusations of politicized policing have been flying around social media since the arrests, especially among supporters of the anti-austerity parties and Mr Murphy himself. He has said there is no chance of his going to prison.
