There will be major disruption for up to 35,000 residents in certain parts of Cork city next week as both the city council and Irish Water have confirmed that a major water mains supply will be shut down for much needed maintenance and repair work.
In a statement released by the city council on Friday evening it was announced that the water network system will be shut down from 11pm on Tuesday, June 27, until 7am on Wednesday, June 28.
It is understood that those who will be affected the most will be residents that receive their water supply from the Cork Lower Reservoir.
The city council say they expect the following areas which include the city centre, Douglas Road, South Douglas Road, Boreenmanna Road, Blackrock Road, Ballinlough Road, Barrack Street, Bandon Road, Sunday’s Well, Leitrim Street, Gerald Griffin Street, Great William O’Brien Street, to have no water supply on Tuesday night.
They also say the work is necessary in order to carry out urgent repairs on a section of old water main which has been identified as being in poor condition and at risk of bursting.
