Sinn Féin launches their election campaigns as public say they’re not supporting Newtownmountkennedy protests

The campaign of Sinn Féin for the upcoming municipal and European elections has begun. The party is fielding candidates in all three European constituencies as well as local authority districts, reports RTE.

With two candidates in each of the six seats for the European elections, Sinn Féin is fielding 335 candidates for the local elections, with at least one candidate in each region.

Party president Mary Lou McDonald stated to the reporters before to the gathering at the Helix in DCU that her organisation aspires to lead on several local authorities in addition to having representatives on every one of them, reports RTE.

According to her, if the party wins national power, this will enable it to fulfil its housing commitments.

“The big issue that’s at all the doors for us is housing, housing, housing in all its manifestations, overcrowding, maintenance of our local authority houses and flats, the issue of rents. I mean rents are literally crucifying people and the fact that you have a whole generation locked out of any real hope of home ownership,” she said, reports RTE.
