Sinn Fein’s chances of being in government have taken a severe blow today after it emerged that Mary Lou McDonald had a 15 minute telephone conversation with Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin.
It’s understood that Martin congratulated McDonald on how well Sinn Fein did in the election but re-emphasized that under no circumstances would Fianna Fail be entering into government with Sinn Fein.
It’s believed that Martin will now try and enter into talks with Fine Gael next week to possibly build a coalition with the Green Party and will keep Sinn Fein out of government.
One thing for almost sure is that Sinn Fein have been taken a blow today and it appears that Fianna Fail have given Sinn Fein one less avenue into government.
