Sinn Fein’s spokesperson for finance calls on the government to extend the emergency Covid-19 payment until at least the end of the year

Sinn Fein’s spokesperson for finance, Pearse Doherty, has called on the government to extend the emergency Covid-19 payment until at least the end of the year.

According to Mr. Doherty, cutting off the payment early would be a ‘major blow to hard-working families.’

The current deadline for the end of the payment is June 8, and there is doubt about whether or not payments will be extended beyond that date.

While hundreds of thousands of people rely on the payment to make ends meet during the pandemic, Minister for Finance Paschal Donoghue recently confirmed that under no circumstances would ministers take a pay cut.
