A judge in the US has ruled to give Jason Corbett’s sister custody of Jack (10) and Sarah (8), who had been looked after by their step-mother Molly Martens since their father was found bludgeoned to death at his home on August 2.
Ms. Martens and her father, Thomas Martens (65) have been deemed “persons of interest” in the case.
A custody battle ensued after John Corbett’s death. It is understood that Ms. Martens wanted to adopt the children, but Mr. Corbett had decreed in his will that in the case of his death, the children should be given to his sister here in Ireland, Tracey Corbett, to be looked after by her and her husband.
On foot of the ruling, there will be a custody hearing tomorrow morning, where the judge in charge of the guardianship case is expected to dissolve the hearing.
The children are likely to return to Limerick in the near future.
