Six gang members arrested after ‘torture chamber’ found during Dutch Police Raid

Six men have been arrested in the Netherlands following a raid that uncovered a makeshift prison, complete with a ‘torture chamber’, near the Belgian border.

The grisly discovery was the result of a Europe-wide crackdown on organised crime based on the infiltration of EncroChat, a sophisticated encrypted messaging service used by criminals across the continent.

Footage released from the June 22nd raid in the village of Wouwse Plantage shows six detention cells as well as one torture chamber, fitted with a dentist’s chair and restraints. Within the soundproofed complex were scalpels, shears, saws and other torture implements.

Messages between the criminals referred to the modified shipping containers as the ‘treatment room’ and ‘Ebi’, the latter being a reference to a high security Dutch prison. It is understood that the arrested men are members of a Rotterdam based drugs gang, with a separate raid in the port city yielding 24 kilograms of MDMA, more weapons, and most chillingly Dutch police uniforms likely planned for use in abducting potential victims.

This case highlights the increasingly barbaric tactics of the Dutch underworld, who play an integral part in supplying neighbouring countries with drugs including Ireland. In 2016 the severed head of one gangland victim was left outside an Amsterdam cafe, attracting global headlines.
