Snow day school update: Department of Education say all schools will be open today bar one exception

The Department of Education has advised that all schools will open this morning – BAR one exception.

The exception is that the Department has left it up to individual boards of management and principal and Vice Principals to make a decision about their own school as the amounts of snowfall has been quite different across the country over the past 24 hours.

Snow has hit Ireland with its heaviest fall this year so far. Western and Northern counties have been worst affected but there’s plenty of black ice on roads that had no snowfall.

Met Eireann claim we will see more snowfall over the coming 24 hours but as of last night, the Department of Education said all schools will open this morning.

Parents are advised to contact a board of management member, other parents or present at the school to see whether the staff are having a “snow day” or whether class is to resume as normal.

However it has been emphasized that it’s up to parents to be discerning and not risk bad roads if the weather is bad in your area and to share this information with other parents.
