Met Eireann forecasts temperatures as low as -2C later this week and has said that its charts show a strong possibility the country will get a blanket of snow by the end of the month.
This along with predicted possibility of thunder storms and hail would mark an end to what has been an unusually mild winter.
Temperatures are expected to start plummeting from Wednesday and Thursday morning will likely see the first real frost of the winter season.
Any snowfall predicted though is likely to be much less severe than the ‘Beast from East’ the country experienced last March.
