Social distancing? Keelings fruit company reveals that migrant workers are housed in shared accommodation

In these bizarre times where lockdown measures are imposed across the board, social distancing is said to be key in stopping the spread of coronavirus throughout the country.

Embattled fruit firm Keelings has revealed that migrant workers brought into Ireland to harvest strawberries are housed in shared accommodation.

The company is facing considerable flak after it emerged that it flew a planeload of migrant workers from Bulgaria in recent days, with apparent disregard for the current travel restrictions enforced during the coronavirus pandemic.

Keelings now confirms that the workers are housed in three- or four-bedroom apartments, with no more than two people to a room.

The company also said that it could not get enough interest from Ireland-based workers when the jobs were announced, so it was forced to look elsewhere.
