The annual Christmas bonus for pensioners and welfare recipients will be paid next week it has been revealed.
The payment which has been handed out since it’s re-introduction back in 2014, will see those currently claiming a state pension or welfare being given a double week’s pay.
Although there were fears the annual Christmas bonus was to be scrapped this year, the Department of Social Protection confrmed that a total of €265m had been set aside to cover the cost of the bonus.
It is expected that recipients will receive a 100% bonus this year, marking a 15% increase in last year’s bonus.
The bonus which will see a minimum of €20 being handed out to recipients, will be paid between December 3rd and 7th.
