Social Welfare payments to be made weekly again beginning in November

The Department of Social Protection have confirmed that social welfare payments will once again be paid weekly beginning in November.

In an announcement the Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys confirmed that payments will return to weekly payments next month.

It is understood the move comes after all social welfare payments were paid on a fortnightly basis at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although some social welfare payments have since reverted back to a weekly payment, a number of recipients were still being paid every two weeks.

The Social Protection Minister said the introduction of fortnightly payments was made in order to decrease footfall at local post offices across the country during the peak of the pandemic.

The Department of Social Protection say those who are still receiving fortnightly payments will have their last fortnightly payment paid on October 19th and they will return to weekly payments on the week beginning November 2nd.
