A 17-yr-old boy is still receiving hospital care in Dublin following an altercation at a Tusla care facility during which another teenager was fatally stabbed, reports RTE.

A post-mortem is expected to be conducted later today on the deceased teen, also 17 and originally from Ukraine, reports RTE.

The victim has been identified as Vadym Davydenko, who had only recently arrived in Ireland.

The incident occurred at an apartment-based care unit, where two other teenagers were also assaulted, and a care worker who intervened sustained minor injuries, reports RTE.

Gardaí have said they are pursuing a specific line of inquiry in the case and have emphasised that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Somali teenager involved, also 17, received injuries that are not considered life-threatening during the confrontation at the emergency residential unit located in Grattan Wood, Donaghmede, reports RTE.

He remains in hospital, and Gardaí are awaiting medical clearance before interviewing him.

Specialist child interviewers and an interpreter will be required, but no discussions about the incident will take place until doctors confirm he is fit for questioning, reports RTE.

Gardaí and Tusla are also making efforts to reach out to the families of all the teenagers involved, who are living abroad.

Two additional teenagers were also targeted, although one of them was able to resist and fend off the attacker, reports RTE.

The location remains under Garda seal as forensic examinations continue.

Gardaí have stated that they are not seeking any additional suspects and are treating the situation as a self-contained event, reports RTE.

Authorities and Government officials are concerned about attempts—particularly on social media—to exploit the incident to promote anti-migrant sentiment.

The facility is operated by a private provider on Tusla’s behalf and is staffed around the clock, reports RTE.

It accommodates four unaccompanied minors—young people who have arrived in Ireland without guardians and are seeking international protection.

Tusla has stated that its primary concern is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the remaining residents and staff at the centre, reports RTE.

It also confirmed that extra supports are being made available to those directly impacted and that it is working to contact the families of all four residents living at the unit, reports RTE.
