Today marks one year since 8-yr-old Kyran Durnin was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, County Louth. The GardaĂ investigation, now classified as a murder inquiry, continues with no trace of the boy, who was six when last seen in June 2022.
Kyran and his mother, Dayla Durnin, were reported missing on August 30, 2024. Dayla was later located in the UK, but Kyran remains missing. Based on intelligence suggesting he may have died in 2022, GardaĂ upgraded the case to a murder investigation in October 2024.
The investigation has involved over 570 actions, including searches of three properties in Dundalk and Drogheda and analysis of 29,500 hours of CCTV footage. Two individuals were arrested on suspicion of murder but released without charge. One suspect, a 36-year-old man, was found dead in Drogheda in December 2024.
Investigators found no evidence of Kyran attending school after June 2022, despite claims he was moving to Northern Ireland. Online activity, including food orders and social media, also indicates Kyran’s presence stopped around mid-2022. Tusla, Ireland’s Child and Family Agency, had prior contact with the family and raised concerns in August 2024, triggering an internal review.
GardaĂ are appealing for any information from the public to help uncover what happened to Kyran. Contact Drogheda Garda Station at 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
