Julian Cuddihy, 42, from Churchtown, Carndonagh, has been formally charged with the double murder of his elderly parents, Jimmy Cuddihy (77) and Kathleen Cuddihy (73). They were both found dead at their home in Churchtown on Thursday morning.
During the brief hearing, the accused stared at the floor, nervously wringing his hands.
When the charges were put to him, he replied ‘I have no response’, and ‘I’m not signing that.’
The defence solicitor requested that his client undergoes a psychiatric evaluation at Castlrea Prison. There was no application for bail, and the accused was granted legal aid.
He was remanded in custody to appear at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court next Wednesday.
