Sorry, we’re full! Polish truck drivers block Ukrainian trucks from crossing the border

According to police and media supporting similar protests in Poland, the Slovak border crossing with Ukraine has been partially blocked, reports RTE.

However, the Slovak Carrier Association distanced itself from the move and called it a one-truck action.

Protests by Polish truck drivers at three border crossings with Ukraine caused delays of at least four days for truck drivers waiting to cross the border.

Polish truckers block roads at border crossings to protest against Ukrainian imports, which, they say, reduce the competitiveness of the goods they transport, reports RTE.

Slovak truckers have backed the Polish truckers’ efforts and staged a symbolic brief blockade of a major intersection last week to show support, but said they would wait for talks before taking further action.

Miloslav Tokar of the Slovak Border and Foreign Police Unit said that at noon, truck drivers blocked the crossing – the only one between the two countries for heavy vehicles – and allowed a limited number of Ukrainian trucks to pass through.

Slovak news agency TASR reported that a truck had blocked the Visne Nemek border crossing, citing Stanislav Skala, head of the Slovak carrier union UNAS, reports RTE.
