South Africa claims that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinian people in Gaza, and it has petitioned the top UN court to urge Israel to immediately halt its military campaign there, reports RTE.
The demand was made at the end of the first day of proceedings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) case that South Africa had filed against Israel.
Tomorrow, Israel will address the accusations, reports RTE.
South Africa requested an immediate halt to Israel’s military campaign in the Palestinian enclave, accusing Israel of committing acts of genocide against the Palestinian people.
“South Africa contends that Israel has transgressed Article Two of the (Genocide) convention, committing acts that fall within the definition of genocide,” Adila Hassim, advocate of South Africa’s high court, told the ICJ, reports RTE.
“The actions show a systematic pattern of conduct from which genocide can be inferred,” Adila added, reports RTE.
