Standing up to Islamic extremism: Pope Francis has asked Muslim leaders to stand against religious violence

Pope Francis wasted no time when he celebrated mass in Cairo in condemning the atrocities carried out by ISIS.

He urged the Muslim leaders in attendance to unify with him to try and put an end to violence in the name of religion once and for all.

He urged the Muslim leaders to stand up and try and put a stop to all religious violence as Islamic militants do their best to rid the Middle East of its ancient Christian communities.

At the end of mass, Pope Francis said:

“True faith leads us to protect the rights of others with the same zeal and enthusiasm with which we defend our own,” he told the crowd.

“God is pleased only by a faith that is proclaimed by our lives, for the only fanaticism believers can have is that of charity! Any other fanaticism does not come from God and is not pleasing to him!”
