Still in the race: Ahern refuses to rule out Áras run during recent interview




Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has once again teased the Irish public about his political future as he refused to rule out running in the next presidential election.

Mr Ahern who has been installed as one of the favourites for the position next year if Michael D Higgins chooses to step down from the position. 

The never ending speculation was highlighted again this week when the former Fianna Fáil leader spoke on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland Programme with Sean O’Rourke.

When asked by the popular host whether or not he will run for the position, Mr Ahern didn’t give a definite answer but instead opted to praise Mr Higgins for his remarkable work since he took the position in 2011.

However when the RTÉ presenter pushed him once again Mr Ahern said he wasn’t ruling out a run but stopped short on giving any details on his future plans. 

Mr Ahern who faced widespread criticism from the public whist in office and then again once his stint as Taoiseach was over finalised by wishing a happy Christmas and a happy new year.
