A spokesperson for the ESB has confirmed that up to 50,000 people could be without power until tomorrow at the earliest.
Storm Ellen caused widespread power outages throughout Wednesday night, knocking power out for about 194,000 people.
The worst of the storm has now passed, but the weather remains extremely unsettled.
