Storm Emma is moving away, but the weather is set to remain extremely cold for another 24 hours at least.
The country is currently blanketed with snow, one metre deep in some high ground areas. Transport has ground to a halt, and citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution if treading snow-covered zones.
Snow will continue falling for most of the day before easing somewhat around Saturday afternoon.
