In the final hours before Frank’s arrival at Irish shores, Met Eireann has warned of the possibility of ‘even worse flooding’, while the ESB expects power outages across most affected counties.

There are four weather warnings in place ahead of the storm, two orange and two status yellow.

Counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry have been issued a ‘status orange’ wind warning. Savage gusts of up to 120km/h are expected.

Meanwhile, a ‘status orange’ rainfall warning is in place for Wicklow, Galway, Cork, Kerry and Waterford, as these areas are prone to heavy flooding.

Citizens are advised to stay well away from coastal areas and bodies of water, and remain indoors if possible, as the storm sweeps across the country.
