Over 5,000 homes are without power tonight as meteorologists and emergency services advise motorists to stay indoors if at all possible.

Donegal, Sligo and parts of Clare are still in darkness as the ESB is said to be working frantically tonight to restore power to many parts of the West Coast.

Emergency services have asked motorists to not make any unnecessary journeys as many trees have fallen and many several roads have been left impassable due to 70mm of rainfall causing heavy flooding.

The N3 Cavan/Dublin road. The Lee Road in Cork, the Ballea road and Fermoy/Watergrasshill roads have all been closed due to have flooding.

Reports that many roads in Donegal, Kilkenny, Longford, Mayo and Roscommon are said to have extremely treacherous driving conditions and the AA say the message is simple – stay indoors until Storm Frank has passed.
