Storm Isha leaves thousands of households without power

According to local media in Derry and Donegal, lightning strikes during Storm Isha ignited a fire that damaged three residences.

According to RTE, fire departments from Derry and Donegal responded to the incident in the Rooskey neighbourhood of Newtowncunningham.

One mile separates the three houses. While no injuries have been reported, some homeowners were said to have been severely shaken as a result of what happened.

Around 4 p.m., there were audible flashes of lightning and thunder throughout the region and in Derry City.

Approximately 93,000 households, farms, and businesses still lack electricity, according to ESB Networks.

“This is down from this morning’s peak when approximately 235,000 customers were without power. The areas which remain most impacted are predominantly in the Northwest including counties Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim and Cavan.”
