Storm Jake: Met Eireann issue three weather warnings as heavy snow is expected this week from storm Jake

Motorists have been urged to drive with care as three weather warnings have been issued ahead of Storm Jake.

Gardai ahave advised motorists to be extra careful tonight and tomorrow as three weather warnings have been issued by Met Eireann ahead of Storm Jake.

A Status Yellow weather warning with predicted winds of up to 130km/h along western, southern and northwestern coastal areas and a Status Orange warning is in place for counties Mayo, Sligo, Galway, Clare, Kerry, Cork, Limerick and Donegal.

Very heavy snow showers are also forecast overnight with at least 3cm of snow in parts of Connacht, Ulster and Leinster, where a Status Yellow warning is in place.

Met Éireann has also given a Status Yellow Weather Advisory as the impact of Storm Jake will be felt along coastal areas of the north, west and south.

The Road Safety Authority and AA Roadwatch have urged drivers to be aware of conditions and watch for wind-blown debris and icy roads over the coming days
