However, according to a factcheck on the journal, it wasn’t strange that the man wasn’t named, it is the law and they deemed the headline to be misleading.
In court, a man in his 30s is accused of raping an elderly woman in County Longford, reports RTE.
The Mullingar District Court heard the case of the unnamed accused.
Because of the nature of the accusations, Longford Garda Station Inspector Paddy McGirl requested that reporting limits be implemented, reports RTE.
The application was approved by Judge John Brennan.
At a site in Co Longford on February 25th, the accused was charged with two counts of rape under Section 4 of the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act 1990 and one count of rape under Section 48 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, reports RTE.
The gardaà would be protesting bail, according to Inspector McGirl.
Frank Gearty, the accused’s attorney, stated that he would not be requesting bail at this time, reports RTE.
The accused was placed on remand by Judge Brennan to appear at Longford District Court via video link on Tuesday of next week.
On February 25, the elderly woman was allegedly raped at her home, reports RTE.
