A quick-thinking bystander has been hailed as a hero after he saved a toddler strapped to a stroller from going into 50 miles traffic, reports Metro.
Dramatic footage shows the buggy rolling down a sloped driveway as the keeper unloads their car during a windy spell in Hesperia, California.
The woman, believed to be the child’s great-aunt, rushes towards the child and at first appears to be available.
But she soon stumbles and falls to the ground as the stroller veers towards a nearby four-lane highway.
In the rush to get back on her feet, her right knee seems to buckle, forcing her to cry helplessly, reports Metro.
A man runs over and grabs the stroller just yards before it has reached the freeway.
NBC Los Angeles identified him as Ron Nessman, who happened to be returning from a job interview at a nearby Applebee’s restaurant.
Mr Nessman told the network: “I knew I could get it and I got it and I’m thankful for that because I really wouldn’t want to see the end result if I wasn’t there. She tried everything she possibly could to get up. Her knees were bleeding when I got up to her. She was still shocked and she was crying,” reports Metro.
His sister, Donna Gunderson, who were witnessing the drama from a nearby patio, added: “I heard screaming to the right. And I look back and I see a stroller going down the driveway and my heart dropped. The cars do 50-55 and it was a busy time of day,” reports Metro.
