Strike action amongst nurses and midwives more than likely to happen over dispute about staffing levels

According to reports this morning members at INMO are to ballot for strike action in the coming weeks ahead in a dispute over recruitment and retention.

The prospect of strike action comes after the INMO recently submitted a proposal on how to address the recruitment and retention of staff in the health sector.

Speaking about the possibilty of strike acton Siptu’s Paul Bell said: “Following a meeting with our National Nursing and Midwifery Committee we are committed to entering a dialogue with our membership concerning the lack of progress made with management in addressing staffing levels, recruitment and retention.”

“This has resulted in a situation where our members are more than likely to decide to ballot for strike action in an attempt to force a solution to this dispute.”

The latest ballot for industrial action comes less than two months after union members voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.
