Study claims that hugging help reduce stress, but it only reduces it for women

According to a recent study, a 20-second morning hug can significantly reduce stress, but only for women.

German and Dutch academics conducted the study on a number of romantic couples aged 19 to 32, and the men showed no impact after the morning hug.

Speaking on RTE, a social psychologist who works at Trinity College Dublin said there is plenty of research to suggest hugs are good for a much wider population than just the 19-32 year old age bracket that was tested.

Dr Karen Hand told the national broadcaster that it really helps people’s parasympathetic system, saying that it does the same thing to us as meditation, slowing down and breathing.

It’s very good for stress levels, claims Dr. Hand.
