Thousands of third level applicants have found out whether they’ve been offered places in the institutions of their choice.
The Central Applications Office have issued over 60,000 level 6, 7 and 8 course offers this morning in the first round of general offers.
Over 40,000 applicants will receive level 8 offers, while half of them will receive their first choice courses.
35,000 level 6 and 7 applicants will receive offers, and of those applicants one in five will receive their first preference.
This year there has been a 14% rise in points required for many courses including engineering, commerce, technology and law; however this rise in points was expected due to the high volume of applicants to these courses compared to previous years.
The CAO General Manager Joe O’Grady has stated that this morning over 10,000 offers have already been accepted, while 5,000 applicants accepted their courses within the first hour after receiving them.
The closing date for accepting first round offers is next Monday at 5.15pm.
