There isn’t much good news to emerge from the New Year’s Eve savage attack on a Eurospar manager, but at least he knows that he has the support of the community and beyond.

A GoFundMe campaign has now raised more than €12,500 for the Eurospar manager who was allegedly the victim of a savage attack by Geroge Nkencho before he allegedly attacking armed Gardai with a knife and was shot dead.

The GoFundMe page titled “Support Wayne in his recovery” was set up in the wake of the brutal assault to help raise funds for Nkencho’s victim who required treatment for serious facial injuries.

After the savage attack, Nkencho walked to Manor Fields while still brandishing the knife as Gardai pleaded with him to drop the weapon. When in his garden after a tense standoff and negotiations, mace and a taser were deployed to subdue the 27-yr-old who continued to try stab Gardai.

Finally warning shots were fired and as a last resort then Gardai, who say that they were left with no option, shot Nkencho three times.
