Stockholm-based firm Ulf Mejergren Architects (UMA) have submitted a bold proposal to build a public swimming pool on the roof of the Notre Dame Cathedral.
A huge blaze completely destroyed the cathedral’s roof and spire last month. Since then, a number of proposals have already been submitted, some fielding innovative solutions such as the rooftop pool idea. Other concepts include building a greenhouse, a park, and a rooftop forest.
Many purists are opposing these proposals, stating that Notre Dame should be restored ‘as it was.’
