Australian authorities are preparing for what could very well be one of the hottest summer’s on record as some parts of the country experienced one of the hottest December’s on record.
The warning comes as the inland town of Marble Bar experienced a sweltering 49.1C day on St Stephen’s Day.
In an official warning Australian weather forecasters have urged the public to be ready as temperatures are expected to exceed 40C in the coming days and weeks ahead.
Elsewhere the country’s capital of Canberra experienced temperatures of 39.1C over the past few days.
