According to various reports this evening the acting Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has said he is fully “prepared” to hold further talks with Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin and all Independents TD’s in order to resolve the formation of the next government.
The news comes after Mr Kenny reportedly sent an open letter to the Independent Alliance this evening, in which the acting Toaiseach stated that he is willing to participate in round-table talks.
It is believed Mr Kenny’s letter was issued after the Independent Alliance openly criticised both of Ireland’s leading parties Fine Gael and Fianna Fail, saying they both need to meet again.
The latest letter to Mr Kenny from the Alliance, reportedly states that they want an answer on whether or not a meeting between it, Mr Kenny and Mr Martin will take place within 24 hours.
It is understood that Mr Kenny quickly responded to the Alliance’s letter by writing back and saying he is fully “prepared to host such a meeting”. Mr Kenny: “I intend to write to all Independent members and to the Fianna Fáil leader to that effect.”
