Talking rubbish? Fine Gael Senator John McGahon on €69,474 a year suggests car registration numbers be printed on burger, drink and chip containers given at drive-thru’s to stop littering

Having spent some time in his local Co Louth community picking up litter, Fine Gael senator, John McGahon suggested drive-thru cafes in Ireland record the car number plates on every container that the drive-thru hands out, reports the Sun.

This would involve either manually writing the car registration numbers on every drinks, burger and chip container or the drive-thru owners would have to install highly specialised CCTV licence plate reader cameras and specialised printing equipment at every location.

Senator John McGahon believes that his plan would allow for litter to be traced back to a car owner and would act as a deterrent against people tipping take-away litter out their car windows.

What do you think? Is the Fine Gael Senator talking absolute rubbish or not?
