A potentially devastating strike action by Luas drivers on St. Patrick’s Day may be averted, if talks between Siptu and the tram’s operator, Transdev, are successful.
The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) will act as a mediator between the parties, with talks set to begin on Wednesday.
Luas drivers have already staged four days of industrial action, and they are intent on continuing their campaign until their pay demands are met. However, Transdev has already stated that the pay rises sought by drivers (up to 54%) are not realistic.
Both sides have welcomed the chance to talk about the issue.
