Tanaiste refers to Saturday’s violent events in Dublin as a ‘riot,’ rather than a ‘protest’

Former Taoiseach appointee Leo Varadkar and current Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has referred to Saturday’s violent events in Dublin as a ‘riot,’ rather than a ‘protest.’

An anti-lockdown protest at Dublin city centre on Saturday afternoon turned violent, leading to clashes between Gardai and protesters.

A member of the Gardai sustained serious injuries during the incident and to be taken to hospital. Two other Gardai were also injured.

Thirteen people appeared before a special sitting of the Dublin District Court on Saturday evening.
