Tanaiste says local lockdowns could be an option if there’s a rise in cases

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said that the use of local lockdowns remains option for the Government if there’s a rise in cases.

Speaking about the possibility of the introduction of such measures, Varadkar said they are in the Government’s plan but he hopes that they won’t have to be used.

Although the Tanaiste admitted that the use of local lockdowns is an option, he did state that they might not be as effective as they are in other countries given that Ireland is a small country.

He added that have proved to be effective in some instances especially in Kildare, Offaly and Laois last year.
