The Tánaiste and Labour Party leader Joan Burton has launched a scathing attack on the Sinn Fein party accusing Gerry Adams and his fellow party members of trying to hijack the history of Ireland.

Ms Burton made her comments whilst addressing at party meeting which was held before the launch of Labour’s Munster 1916 exhibition. Ms Burton claims the ideals of Republicanism does not belong to any one party as it belongs to everyone, although some (Sinn Fein) are trying to rewrite history for their own ends.

The Tanaiste claims the Sinn Fein party is deliberately distorting Irish history so they can explain away the IRA’s campaign of sectarian violence, Ms Burton also believes Sinn Fein had very little to do with the events of 1916.

Ms Burton added Sinn Fein party members can’t even say the official name of the State, the Republic of Ireland, claiming they were delusional, and hypocritical.
