On foot of FIFA’s recent scandals that culminated in the resignation of its president, Sepp Blatter, mere days after his re-election to the post, Enda Kenny has now called for a full investigation into the affairs of FIFA’s Irish subsidiary.
It also emerged in recent days that FIFA paid its Irish branch €5m to keep it from pursuing any legal claims arising from the hugely controversial Thierry Henry handball incident during a qualification play-off for the 2010 World Cup.
The Taoiseach said that the FAI has a “duty” to answer all queries about the incident, in the interest of supporters.
Mr. Kenny also made calls for a full investigation into the establishment and running of FIFA’s Irish subsidiary, in which Sepp Blatter was actually sitting as chairman.
