Taoiseach reiterates that 80% of the population will be offered at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by June

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has reiterated the Government’s stance that 80% of the population will be offered at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by June.

Speaking in the Dail, Martin said the target still remains the same and he believes issues surrounding vaccine supply will be improved significantly.

Martin also said the vaccination programme has been very effective to date with a significant impact being made amongst those in nursing homes and those who are frontline healthcare workers.

The Taoiseach’s comments come after Labour party leader Alan Kelly questioned the roll-out citing concerns with vaccine supply and the recruitment of vaccinations for mass vaccination centres.

Kelly told the told the Dail that the Government seemed to have a haphazard approach to dealing with the project.

Although Kelly acknowledged that there is issues surrounding supply, he did question the Taoiseach on time saying speed is of the essence in terms of the roll-out.

Kelly added the issues surrounding mass vaccination centres had been a mess to begin with and urged NIAC to hold a meeting.
