Taoiseach says he has no problem taking Covid-19 vaccine in public but wants jab to go to someone who needs it

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that he has no problem taking a Covid-19 vaccine on live TV but has said that he won’t skip the queue as he wants the jab to go to somebody who needs it to stay alive.

Speaking on RTE’s Today with Claire Byrne programme, the Taoiseach said he has no problem in following in the guidance of people such as US President elect Joe Biden, but reiterated that he wants to follow the sequence set out by public health officials.

Martin told the programme that he is willing to take a vaccine on live TV but he wants the vaccine to go to somebody that who needs it to stay alive or somebody who will avoid serious illness.

The Taoiseach added that given the low volume of vaccines coming at the end of the month, I think it should to someone who actually needs it more than I need it.
