Taoiseach says if we reach 2,000 cases a day it will be very challenging for our contact tracing system

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that if the country were to see 2,000 Covid-19 cases a day it would be very challenging for our contact tracing system.

Speaking following the announcement of Level 5 restrictions, the Taoiseach said that both the Government and NPHET have become concerned with the rise in cases in recent days.

Although it is hoped that the country doesn’t reach the grim milestone of 2,000 cases a day by New Year’s Eve, the Taoiseach said that the Government has decided to move quickly and deal with the renewed threat aggressively and head on.

He added we will do whatever it takes to get through this pandemic safely.

The Taoiseach’s comments come after it was revealed that there has been a 10% daily growth rate in cases.
